Land Trust/TSSP:

  • The plan and goals were discussed at the February 11, 2026, meeting, so briefly recapped during this meeting. Please see February 11, 2026 meeting minutes for break down of goals and action items.
  • Budget: Comparison (budget numbers are based on weighted pupil unit (WPU) for the previous year)

2025-2026

Land Trust: $80,305

TSSP: $126,248

Total: $206,533

Projected 2026-2027

Land Trust: $68,497

TSSP: $106,482

Total: $174,979

  • The district will be covering .25 budget for the school counselor, so we will providing the other .25 to have the position at .5. If we have additional funding, this may be bumped up to be a .6 position.
  • We will be adding one Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Staff member next year, having three positions total. The district covers the funding for one position, so we will use funding to cover the other two positions. The plan is to provide a structured recess for students with behavioral issues. This looks like different levels of supervision and activities allowed with students. It is recommended that two MTSS staff members will be available for daily need and that one staff member will handle the other systems of the wellness team (Daily check-ins/check-outs, PBIS rewards, and structured recess plans).
  • I-Ready has not been approved by the district, but Kierstin is pushing hard for it to be approved. While Amplify will be a great program, it only teacher curriculum at current grade level. I-Ready’s ability to place students where they are is highly beneficial. We are also requesting to use it as a diagnostic tool to identify where kids are within the grade level.
  • 95% curriculum is covered by the district for kindergarten through third grade. We will be utilizing funding to add the curriculum for fourth and fifth grade.
  • The legislature typically approves a 5% cost of living adjustment, but this year it was decreased to 4%. The Utah Fits All budget is increasing by $20 million (according to the Utah Education Fits All Facebook page), which continues to impact available funding for our public schools.

Behavior:

  • The district is going to pay for an additional .25 for our school counselor for the upcoming year (26-27 only). This frees up some of our Land Trust/TSSP money for next year.

Academics:

  • The RISE testing begins April 21. Because the test covers the full year, instruction after the testing is typically scholastic review so that all necessary topics for testing are covered prior to the April testing.
  • The Spring Acadience Benchmark Testing is April 27 & 28.  There are legislative changes that will be impacting future years (2027-2028). Acadience testing will be directly tied to kindergarten to second grade teacher performance. Still in early phases so unsure what this whether this will measure students’ growth or overall performance.
  • The legislature also passed SB 241 for 2026. This bill mandates that third graders not reading at grade level by the end of the 2029-2030 school year will be held back. This also ties student scores to teacher evaluation. The details of this implementation are not established so more information will come.
  • Absenteeism is still a concern and impacts meeting academic goals. Next year there is a plan to increase incentives for kids coming to school.

Concerns:

  • Enrollment continues to decrease throughout the state.  We currently have 434 students. The projected number for next year is 405. The district is projecting 17 teachers for our school next year. Two teachers will be retiring so we will not lose any teachers, but there will need to be shifting with a first-grade teacher moving to teach second grade. This will hopefully be a one year shift and that we will be able to hit the goal of 3 classes per grade level in future years. No additional teachers will be hired until kids are in the classroom. With the Bella Vista closing, there is only one position open in the district so we are optimistic that filling a position at the beginning of the year will not be an issue.

Celebrations:

  • The district selected Crescent to host the student teachers from Southern Utah University. Next week the student teachers will be in the classroom. Our teachers will instruct on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be the day for student teachers to instruct with observation and Friday will be a combined teaching day.
  • Crescent Elementary is getting a mascot! Tomorrow the kids will be voting on the name. Each grade level is nominating one name to be on the list of options. The name will be announced at an assembly on Friday. April 3rd will be the official announcement day.

Action Plan:

  • The vote to approve the goals, plan and budget for next year was unanimously approved.

Future Meeting Dates:

All meetings will be held in the Crescent Conference Room from 4 – 5 PM

  • April 15
  • May 13
