SCC Meeting Agenda

Crescent Elementary

November 12, 2025

Attendance: Ashley Bourdos, Will Osborne, Stephanie Laing, Angela Thompson, Kierstin Draper, Becky Waddington, Tyler Germer

Attending Guests: Caitlin Shaw

PTA Notes: PTA Fundraiser is going well! We are over 75% there!

Land Trust/TSSP:  Caitlin Shaw is the district liaison for the district and Crescent Elementary for digital citizenship training and sharing information to students, parents, and staff/faculty. The students Thrive lessons include digital citizenship as a topic. The teachers are trained on digital citizenship and how to manage technology within their classrooms. Teachers have software (LanSchool or Apple Classroom) to view each student’s screen, limit the accessible applications and websites, and have the power to black out screens to redirect students if they are not staying on task with their work. They have discussed the use of AI within the classroom, how to use AI to assist in lesson planning, and how to establish what AI is allowed. Currently most of the AI use is around design elements, such as using Canva AI to assist in making a project (i.e. presentations) to make them more engaging and visually appealing. The current filters the district utilizes both reviews internet searches and document content which flags any inappropriate or concerning topic.

The district has comprehensive resources for staff, faculty and parents on the website at https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/familyconnections/.

Behavior: We are seeing improvements with our number of behavior referrals due to the systems & supports we have put in place over the last year and a half.

Academics: Reviewed the fall I-Ready data from the August testing. I-Ready is a great tool for the school to use because it measures how well students are doing with common core standards and how prepared they are for RISE testing. The testing will compare this year’s grade to last year’s grade (i.e. 2025 3rd grade to 2024 3rd grade) as well as comparing the same students over time. For the initial testing, Crescent is relatively close to the national benchmarks. Later year testing the goal is to see improvement in percentages for mid-level to early grade level and decrease students that are below grade level. The school district is going to be switching to Amplify for mathematics and with this they have stated that I-Ready will not be allowed for schools to utilize. This means that schools will end up needing to spend more money, as the grant money is not available with only 1 subject. This is an estimated expense of an additional $2600 annually for the school.  No information available on what Amplify will look like and if it has the same robust data that I-Ready has.

Concerns: How is the parking lot at arrival and dismissal? How can we improve? Children walking through the buses in the South parking lot is still a concern. Crescent will try to reiterate to parents that no parents are allowed in the South parking lot while busses are present. We are hoping that the sidewalk along the West fence will encourage parents to drop their kids off along the south fence instead of the parking lot.

Celebrations:

  • Great participation in Spirit Nights & other PTA events
  • Welcome Will Osborne & Natalie Smith as voting members

Action Plan:

  • Review parking lot expectations
